Nia Speight Northern Virginia Doula
Traditional support for families during all of life's transitions.
Traditional support for families during all of life's transitions.

I've worked nine years within the family support profession and have spent a meaningful amount of time evolving as a caregiver. My career began as a nanny, maturing into roles as a funeral and cemetery counselor, which both allowed me to support families in beautiful and often challenging times.
When I decided to become a doula, or what I prefer to name la femme sage, I was supporting parents through stillborn photography and abortion support. I‘ve always had an inkling that my passion for birth-work would leave me standing at the threshold between life and after-life, as both are related and deserve a loving space. In my work today, I'm primarily focused on birth doula services in hospital and home-birth settings, and furthering my education in maternal health, body movement in labor, and the placenta.
As a doula my support is rooted in education, body-centered care, and motherly wisdom. How we choose to welcome children into the world is important; I understand childbirth to be a personal experience that requires not only medical support but community, and ideally support that affirms trust in the birthing-person and their body.
Virginia has been my home since birth. I'm the firstborn and eldest to three brothers and one sister. I'm a mother to a very funny and precocious little girl, who I also had the most exciting birth experience with. On days I have to myself, I'm probably making a homecooked meal or blending together an herbal tea. I love anything related to health sciences, art, and ancient history. I really do enjoy life and all things created…
